A chain-link fence, lots of scaffolding, and a face-lift now separate would-be shoppers from the soon-to-open Point Loma Grocery Outlet in Midway Towne Center.

"Point Loma Grocery Outlet is coming!” read a recent company Facebook post. “The store is getting a face lift, and hiring events will begin shortly.”

According to the Facebook page, an opening date for their store has not yet been scheduled but the forecast is for late January 2013.

According to groceryoutlet.com, the Berkeley -based chain started as a deep-discount/military-surplus store in 1946. “Today, Grocery Outlet is a third-generation family run business, recognized as the nation’s largest grocery extreme-value retailer…. Our offering is wide: groceries, frozen, deli & refrigerated, produce, fresh meat, general merchandise — seasonal products, housewares, toys, and gifts — health & beauty, and a most impressive inventory of beer & wine.”

"Midway Towne Center?" Is that the one on Midway and Kenyon? What store is it replacing?

Midway Towne Center is the shopping center where Papa John's and Soup Plantation is. They are putting the Grocery Outlet into a space they have whittled out between CVS (old Long's store) and Yahoo's Fish Taco's. It also looks like the shopping center is putting on a new roof. There is a lot of construction activity going on right now.
