During the September 8-9 power outage, the Walgreen's drugstore located at 3005 Midway Drive had their front door smashed in and an estimated $400 worth of cigarettes stolen. Pieces of broken glass littered the pavement near the entrance on the 9th.
A Walgreen's clerk said that "sometime around 3:00 a.m. [on the 9th], when the store was closed due to no power, an object was used to smash out a sliding front door window, and Marlboro and Marlboro red cigarettes were removed" from the store.
Over at the Walgreen's on Balboa and Genesee in Clairemont, a photo clerk named Cynthia said that when the electricity went out, customers were "escorted into the store one at a time, for safety reasons, to shop, and they were mostly buying candles and water." She also said that the National City Walgreen's store was looted.
