Two individuals have reported being hit by water balloons thrown by youths from vehicles while on the 4800-5200 blocks of La Jolla Boulevard.

A renter living in the 5100 block claimed to have been hit while returning from Albertsons on his bicycle; he said the softball-size water balloons were thrown by teenage boys in a late-model silver Mercedes.

Also, a security guard working the night shift at a nearby apartment complex said he was hit recently by water balloons.

A local homeowner said the amount of noise, traffic, and general craziness has tripled since MTV began taping their Real World program on a nearby street.

We have had the same problem on Forward Street in Bird Rock. A couple weeks ago our car was hit by at least one water balloon as we drove down the street in the early evening. Originally I thought I hit something, but upon inspection I saw the remains of one or more balloons and water everywhere. I was unable to determine where it came from; a passing car, or a stationary point. It is only a matter of time before someone gets hurt by these pranks. Obviously there in no real damage to a car, but when it progresses to direct hits on people, the issue becomes more annoying and potentially serious.

There's no place like La Jolla. The street hooligans drive late model Benzes! What's next, eggers who drive Rolls-Royce? Hey, life is tough everywhere, even in LJ.

Water balloons are a big improvement over eggs. I have had raw eggs thrown at me twice walking along Mission Blvd in PB in the early evening. And both of these are less damaging than throwing stuff off freeway overpasses, which seems to have died down in recent years.

There was a case back in the last 80's where two kids threw an 6 inch stone/rock off the freeway overpass at first street as it goes into downtonw-I think that was the overpas- and this young guy, a model, was driving his corvette with a moonroof and the stone/rock went right through it and hit him in his head, causing massive brain injuries.......awful.
