As confirmed at the Point Loma Association's November Beautification Committee meeting and reiterated in the 2011 winter bulletin, La Scala Restaurant, located on the corner of Scott and Cañon streets, has been purchased by the owners of Pomodoro, also located in Point Loma. The restaurant is currently under renovation and will reopen as the Lighthouse Grill.

La Scala had been operating for three decades, recently to less than stellar reviews. (Yelp criticisms included outdated decor and sluggish service.)

Beginning in the late 1970s, the Point Loma Association began concentrating on the removal of billboards and shutting down area strip clubs, including one located at the La Scala location named the Booby Trap.

I think the first sentence ran on as long as La Scala's demise.

Looking forward to the change. The "Village" is changing nicely with the addition of this new restaurant, LaPlaya Bistro, Jimmy's American Grill as well as the others within Liberty Station.

I agree, JustWondering (not about the sentence ;). For being such a beautiful area, we have left much to be desired in the way of upscale dining. Roseville was a victim of the recession and a rather unorthodox location for a fine dining establishment. This new restaurant will fit in nicely and bring a much needed facelift to this address.

La Scala has been there forever-but I have never eaten there. Just about everywhere else in that area, but not there.

The Red Sails Inn has been around for 70 or 80 years, though not in the same location as it is currently. Good place.

I still think the Bali Hai is the best restaurant in San Diego overall based on price, view/location, food and service.

Its luster wore off years ago and I honestly think they may have just been going through the motions.

Red Sails is a great local place to eat. The Reader review for it was less than complimentary, but it does not advertise itself as a "white glove" place to eat. Just a nice, homey place to get a great Crab Louie, have a drink at the bar and eat some calamari or sit on the deck and bask in the sun. John the bartender is awesome.

The Bali Hai is where you take friends visiting from out of town who have never been. I have been to many parties, celebrations and a wedding there. Perfect place to entertain.

Sounds like good news for Pt. Loma Seafood lovers!

BTW: Where is the best place to get a dozen clams at a fair price?

Point Loma Seafoods is hands-down the BEST place to get seafood. We purchased a quart-size container of ceviche there recently and it set us back about $25.00!! But OMG, it was heavenly. They still have not commenced their remodel.

"Fast Eddie's Booby Trap". Priceless.

That is pretty funny! Booby Trap, great stuff.....reminds me of the scene in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" where the jackels searched Roger's wife Jessica and the jackel had his hand snaggeded in a "booby trap" when he seacrhed her......

Thanks, Nan!! And my husband informed me (he grew up in Point Loma) that the old strip club in the La Scala location was called "Fast Eddie's Booby Trap". Priceless.

My mother, Anne Scarborough, owned a jazz nightclub at this location immediately before it became a strip club. The name of her place was the Club Mardi Gras, and it was in business from 1965-1968. Some major jazz stars performed at the Mardi Gras: Wes Montgomery, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Anita O'Day, June Christy, Cal Tjader, to name a few. Unfortunately, my mother was forced to sell the club after prolonged pressure from a local organized crime syndicate. It was this group that installed the Booby Trap in that location.

Just a bit of local history. Maybe some readers will remember the Mardi Gras.
