Left Turn for the Worse

On July 26 at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Midway Drive, half a block off West Point Loma Boulevard, a young woman in her early 30s driving an Acura struck a man in his 60s while he was crossing the street in front of the Mission Plaza Hotel & Suites. The motorist was turning left onto Midway, exiting from the Point Loma Plaza shopping center.

The man sustained serious deep lacerations to his right upper-eye area, right forearm, and to his right knee. He was provided immediate attention by passersby, who kept him calm and attentive while the young lady in the Acura alerted the police and paramedics; they arrived approximately 12 minutes after the call.

The victim did not appear to have lost consciousness, though at first he was not very responsive when asked his name and age and if he knew exactly where he was and what had just happened to him. The ambulance loaded the victim and sped off while the police gathered information from the motorist...who seemed more in shock than the victim.
