Homeless Man Struck Down

— At approximately 8:30 pm on Tuesday, December 30, 2008, a pedestrian was struck by a red pick-up truck near the intersection of Washington Place and Randolph Street in Mission Hills. Witnesses to the accident said that the pedestrian was a homeless man who was lying down in the middle of Washington Place between Pioneer Park and the Missions Hills tennis courts. At the time of the accident, there was particularly low visibility due to heavy fog that had set in a few hours prior. The authorities responded promptly, and within minutes there was a fire engine, ambulance, and five police cars on-site. Vehicles driving on Washington Place were directed to take an alternate route as the street was closed. The victim was placed on a stretcher in an ambulance to be taken to the hospital.
