The local band 3against1 has won the Best Unsigned Band competition held by the Zippo lighter manufacturer, beating 1200 other entrants hoping to win free equipment and a chance to perform for Island Records. Votes were supplied by website visitors who downloaded samples of songs by eight finalists. A band since 2001, 3against1 appears tomorrow at Squid Joe's in Carlsbad.
