The humble, unassuming PATH Theatre Co. began in 1979. Robert Cole, who is hearing-impaired, wanted to create opportunities for actors with disabilities in theater, television, and movies. His workshops led to the creation of a board, formed by Tom Bosley and other members of the TV show Happy Days (other supporters include Burt Reynolds, Gabe Kaplan, and Bree Walker). "They set out to convince the media to hire actors with disabilities, based on their ability," says a spokesperson, "for roles both as disabled persons and as able-bodied persons." Along with producing shows, the San Marcosbased company provides classes for actors and a children's workshop. Due to popular demand, they've extended the runs of their last two shows.
