New Suit

Gentle satire of Hollywood, nestled in peach-toned photography, about a frustrated scriptwriter, currently a flunky for a high-rolling production company, who gets some buzz going on a nonexistent screenplay by a nonexistent writer and sets off a bidding war. The young independent filmmakers -- transplanted French director François Velle and first-time screenwriter Craig Sherman -- seemingly didn't want to close off any avenues to the Promised Land, and in the meantime they've been keeping their eyes and ears open. (From the studio chief's feng-shui advisor: "I am getting a preponderance of yang coming off of you.") The threadbare production stresses their status as outsiders, and somewhat undermines the fictional illusion. With Jordan (son of Beau) Bridges, Marisa Coughlan, and Dan Hedaya. 2003.
