Margin of Error
Roustabouts, San Diego's newest company, opened its doors with Will Cooper's at times compelling, at others loosely scripted drama about the disintegration of a physics genius. Anton Myrvold, the ethical "conscience of science," is a finalist for the Nobel Prize. He and social activist wife Sunita invite two Fermi Prize candidates to dinner. Stark revelations propel them to the "margin of error," where things fall apart. Highly skilled Rosina Reynolds directs and Sean Fanning contributes a professorial, polished oak set. The acfting varies: Roxanne Carrasco's adept at Sunita (though the saintly woman could use a flaw); Ruff Yeager commands the stage as Anton (but over-commands early on). The guests are less well-written. Kate Rose Reynolds fleshes out Britt, but Joel Miller's often stiff readings miss emotional opportunities. Worth a try.
