Kafka & the Upanishads: A Smackdown
506 21st Street, San Diego, 92102
Cost: Free - $10
Coffee with Kafka's summer event is a lively lecture and discussion in an outdoor garden setting. The Upanishads, written between the 6th and 8th Centuries BCE, contain the central philosophical concepts of Hinduism, providing a light on the secret of human existence. Franz Kafka's aphorisms, written in the first decades of the 20th Century, offer a new way of looking at the Upanishads -- and vice versa. Peter Bolland, writer, speaker, spiritual teacher, singer-songwriter, philosophy professor at Southwestern College and SDSU, will offer entertaining insights. Actor Byron LaDue will read from the texts. Discussion following. Refreshments, coffee, wine served. $10 suggested donation.
