Balboa Park’s Next 100 Years: Breakfast Dialogue
Citizens Coordinate for Century 3 will shine a light on Balboa Park and its abundant offerings to our city and the region while discussing ways forward and challenges ahead.
The morning starts with a hosted, sit-down breakfast outdoors in the Casa del Rey Moro Garden overlooking the Japanese Friendship Garden and Spreckels Organ Pavilion where a group of presenters will speak about the future of the park, including architectural historian Milford Wayne Donaldson on the park's historic site management from a national perspective; executive director of the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership Peter Comiskey about how collaboration and collaborative programs have changed in the park over the last decade; Michael Stepner, architect and academic, who will discuss the challenges presented by years of budget cuts and deferred maintenance; and new Balboa Park Conservancy Executive Director Thomas Herrera-Mishler on the Conservancy's future plans.
Tours will follow of the California Tower Observation Deck, the Japanese Friendship Garden hosted by project architect Kotaro Nakamura, Gardens of the Prado showcased by The Friends of Balboa Park, the Botanical Building with the San Diego Floral Association, and SOHO's Souvenirs & Keepsakes of the Panama Exhibitions at the Marston House.
