Rainwater Harvesting: Creating a Drought-Resilient Property
This class takes you beyond the use of rainwater storage tanks by teaching you how to capture and retain the thousands of gallons of rain that falls on your property. You will learn how to create simple earthen structures that help reduce outdoor water consumption, decrease water bills, control erosion, and enhance soil fertility.
Earthworks help you achieve maximum effectiveness for the least effort and cost whether your yard is urban, suburban or rural, big or small. Sky Mountain Permaculture Institute is one of the oldest and most established water-harvesting demonstration sites in San Diego County with many large and small scale examples of water harvesting systems over seven acres that will inspire you to create an oasis of your own.
The workshop will include a lecture, tour, and hands-on project. Alden is the garden manager and lead instructor who has taught hundreds of people how to harvest rainwater since 2008. Sky Mountain Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit incorporated in 1981. Our mission is "to teach people how to regenerate the earth and live sustainable lives."
