Chinese Calligraphy & The Heart Sutra
The practice of Sutra Writing is a form of Buddhist meditation throughout Asia. This workshop will introduce you to the Heart Sutra – The essence of the Prajna Paramita (Perfection of Wisdom) Sutra using Chinese Calligraphy. The virtuous inspiring brush meditation in silence with awareness can create a deeper understanding of the Buddha’s teachings.
Tara Hu is an artist who was raised and trained in Taipei, Taiwan. She has lived in the US since 1995. Using traditional Chinese calligraphy techniques, she brings a fresh and contemporary style to the pieces she creates, giving each work a unique and contemporary look, and making the ancient art of Chinese calligraphy speak to our modern world.
Beyond their simple elegance, the Chinese characters she paints have special spiritual resonance and are inspired by Buddhist texts like The Heart Sutra. Moreover, she describes the act of making her art as a form of meditation. It is her hope that her work will inspire, heal, and give strength to people simply by viewing it.
