Background:
Born in China, Wu Man is an experimental jazz-world-fusion performer whose specialty is a stringed instrument called the pipa. With cello player Yo-Yo Ma, she was a founding member of the Silk Road Ensemble.
“The pipa is a lute-like instrument with a history of more than two thousand years. The pipa’s many left and right hand fingering techniques, rich tonal qualities and resonant timber give its music expressiveness and beauty that are lasting and endearing.”
