Background:
Warren Gref is a long-time French horn player for the San Diego Symphony, having joined in 1979. While attending USC and Cleveland Institute of Music, he studied under Wendell Hoss and Myron Bloom.
As of 2011, Gref is second horn for the orchestra. He also plays with San Diego Opera, and regularly performs at the Mainly Mozart Festival and La Jolla Music Society SummerFest. He teaches French horn at U.C. San Diego and SDSU, and has toured Japan with the Sierra Brass Quintet.
His longtime collaborators in the Symphony French horn section include fourth horn Douglas Hall, who joined the orchestra in 1988, and third horn Tricia Skye, who has played alongside the duo since 2000.
