Background:

The Shamey Jays were born out of a swirling cloud of garage rock, 60s pop rock, punk, roots and "alt-alt," the Shamey Jays appear like rock bodhisattvas, to kick out the jams to all who seek to drink the quenching nectar of jangly guitar and chunky guitar riffs, layered on a bed of tight rhythm and garnished with a crisp sprig of vocal harmonies.

The group was founded by OG garage rocker Billy Gruff (aka Dave Howard), a gracefully aging New York punk with attitude and searing guitar chops. Other members have included veteran San Diego scenesters like Jerry Rig, Matt Silvia, and Spud Davenport. All four guys are seasoned pros with a long history of gigging in various genres and scenes in San Diego and across the country.
