Background:
Composer, performer, improviser, electro-acoustic instrument builder, and jazz pianist Mark Applebaum Ph.D. in composition from UCSD, where he studied with Brian Ferneyhough, Joji Yuasa, Rand Steiger, and Roger Reynolds. Going on to compose a number of works, he also builds electroacoustic instruments out of junk, hardware, and found objects, for use as both compositional and improvisational tools.
As of 2011, Applebaum teaches at Stanford University. His Concerto for Florist and Orchestra was premiered by the La Jolla Symphony in March 2011.
