Background:

Percussionist Jon Szanto has performed with the San Diego Symphony since 1976, as well as playing with the Harry Partch Ensemble. A Partch archivist, Szanto maintains a website devoted to Partch music and his handmade instruments, www.corporeal.com.

Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron counts Szanto among his one-time teachers, as does Manhattan Transfer alum Cliff Almond. In 2009, when Pearl Jam played in San Diego, Cameron had Szanto sit in on drums for one song.
