Background:
Javier “J.V.” Villanueva pioneered the earliest Tejano radio programs, most notably while DJing at KUKA 105.9 FM in San Diego. Aside from giving countless performers their first airplay, Villanueva also managed Tejano stars like Laura Canales, Los Fabulosos Cuatro, and Carlos Guzman.
The Tejano music pioneer passed away in San Diego on June 10, 2011, at the age of 61.
