The San Diego County Fair opened its gates at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 8. Margaret Austin of Escondido was the first person in line at the official gate, and has been for at least the last 25 years. She boarded a bus in Escondido at 5:30 a.m. to arrive by 7:30. Her walking cart was filled with pig memorabilia. She comes each year to see the "piggies." Her T-shirt was custom made for her by the Swifty Swine Pig Racers, a popular show at the fair.
