Proposal for newly drawn assessment district in North Park once again in the works
It's going to be a tough sell to a skeptical public, especially after the Golden Hill special assessment mess. North Park Main Street might do better playing up and giving lots of kudos to businesses and residents that DO take care of their property to inspire others to do the same. Any type of election to increase taxes seen mostly to benefit only a few blocks around the NP business core will probably be defeated.— September 17, 2013 8:56 p.m.
Goodwill hunting for donations at new Hillcrest store
Goodwill hunting, very clever title! Not sure if this is the type of business Hillcrest needs. However, it's an alternative to the higher priced places on University like the newly re-opened Obelisk. Revivals does a great job presenting and stocking their merchandise. Goodwill and Barras will need to really be on their toes to compete.— August 17, 2013 11:46 a.m.
Will sale of lots in North Park relieve transient problem?
This stretch of University is definitly ripe for development. Perhaps, a small reatail outlet with two story lofts would be ideal and in keeping with the residential and business needs of the highly walkable area. The buildings directly east of the empty lot could also use a clean-up/re-use.— August 10, 2013 12:18 p.m.
On a visit to Los Angeles, I enjoyed this art exhibit across the street from the Los Angeles County
Very cool art piece and photo!— July 24, 2013 5:57 p.m.
New Walgreens store rises on University Ave. in Hillcrest
It just doesn't seem like that area of Hillcrest needs another drug store. I wish they would have built it further west on University in North Park where I live.— May 10, 2013 7:42 p.m.
Desert Inspiration in Palm Springs
I too love PS. There is something special about the place that makes it a standout in the bustling Coachella Valley. Maybe, it's the history of the area combined with the contrasts of the mountains and desert. It's great any time of year if you visit with the right frame of mind. So peaceful and intoxicating in the summer VS the busy but beautiful Spring and Fall. Winter is the best time to hike in the Indian Canyon. And, it's so easy to get to from San Diego!— March 27, 2013 6:33 p.m.
AT&T building still a “public nuisance” in North Park?
Good article, I've driven by the property and have wondered about its' status. You would think a major company like AT&T would do its' best to present a positive public image. Especially it they want to upgrade the cell-phone towers that require a public hearing. The City Council should also consider maintainence of the utility companies' buildings throuout the city when their license renewals come up for public hearings.— March 19, 2013 2:39 p.m.
North Park Eyesore to Become Irish Pub?
I e-mailed Todd Gloria's office months ago about this eyesore and never heard back from his staff. Maybe, he now has his focus on downtown interest.— February 24, 2013 8:31 p.m.
North Park Main Street update
Good to know that North Park Main Street is still going strong. I hope they take a look at the western side on the neighborhood starting at Park and heading east on University towards the business section. It sure could use some work. Anyone know what's happening with the Albertson's store on University?— January 15, 2013 9:11 p.m.
Horton Plaza Project Approved, but Planned Art Unfunded
Sounds nice, it's a good start to help entice people to visit downtown. However, our downtown is nowhere near the activity level of Union Square in SF or the recently renovated portions of downtown LA. I'd prefer electronic lighting/artwork vs. traditional sculpture as it's more exciting, can be quickly altered for special events, and lots less expensive.— November 20, 2012 5:18 p.m.
