First look at Waypoint Public
Thanks for the info. My husband & I were down there last Saturday. We thought it was open for business with the garage style wall/doors wide open, fresh flowers out, etc., but all the entry doors were locked well in to the lunch hour. We weren't sure if the posted hours were a left over from the Linkery and not yet changed. Someone was inside vac/cleaning, but never looked up, so we left for the True North. While at the stop light we saw another couple try the doors, etc. and walk away. Not good for a business, especially a new one, to look like you're open when you're not. An easy $100.00 in sales walked away in less than 5 minutes.— October 31, 2013 12:04 p.m.
League of California Cities Touts Openness but Shuns Disclosure Requirements
I was curious what kind of a 501 not for profit they were, so I went looking. Imagine my surprise when I found out they are registered as a charity.— July 26, 2012 7:12 p.m.
Redevelopment promoters weep over supreme court decision
There are at least of couple of Councilmembers that promote themselves as being business people. One of the first things a business does is cut unnecessary payroll. Most of the RDA related staff are not necessary for the transfer/sale of assets. So, where are the staff cuts?— January 18, 2012 10:34 a.m.
Faulconer Wants to Hasten Downtown Projects
Gov. Brown has been in politics for a long time and probably knew this would happen and hopefully has a plan to reclaim this money. I have let Gov. Brown know that I support his plan to take redevelopment dollars away from the corrupt and put it back in the coffers for police, schools, pot hole repairs, etc. where it should be. I hope all of you that are sick and tired of the redevelopment raid (not to mention all the other abuses) on our tax dollars will do the same.— January 28, 2011 5:26 p.m.
Linda Vista Landmark Skateworld Faces the Wrecking Ball of Redevelopment
Thank you, Joe Deegan for continuing to shine a light on these dark dealings. I have noticed a pattern in the comments posted to many articles pertaining to redevelopment related abuses. Most are made by people who seem to be the average/real community members, then one or two that have the stink of an "insider". In other words, someone who makes sneaky deals (with the help of the redevelopment agency and elected officials)to greatly enrich themselves, then shoves the plan down community's throat. More ballpark lies from Oregon this time
Additional comment to post #3 - The residual land analysis report for Grantville from Economics Research Associates did not even mention the almost 32 million dollars that will be siphoned away from Grantville to downtown unless GAG wins it's lawsuit to stop this fiasco. Spinning data is bad enough, but to completely ignore it? If they ignored that little piece of information, there's no telling what else is not in that report. You can help GAG fight the insane money transfer by donating to their lawsuit at www.GrantvilleActionGroup.com. Great article, Don. Your post #4 says it beautifully. I hope Portland is smart enough to see San Diego as a cautionary tale. Hey Portland, wake up! Don't fall for the fantasy and end up with our nightmare.— October 29, 2009 11:31 a.m.
Bruce Henderson: no room for a Chargers stadium downtown
Hey Don! Too bad you won't run for City Council. However, if you were on the council we would loose your reporting and that would be a cryin' shame. Although it sounds hopeless, this mess can be turned around. We all have an opportunity to be a catalyst for change in our next election by working for candidates that support neighborhood rights instead of organized money. Find the "Real Deal" candidates instead of the posers that do a 180 once they are elected. Work hard for these "Real Deal" candidates whether they are in your district not. Why? Because even if you are fortunate enough to have a good Councilmember representing you, like Donna Frye, they still need the support of the rest on the council to put a stop to this madness.— July 9, 2009 9:30 a.m.
Condemned
It seems like every time I turn around I read a story about how my own tax dollars are being used by politicians to screw me over. The fact that Madaffer is president of the League of Cities speaks volumes about their agenda. Prop 99 is being pushed by Madaffer, the League of Cities, and every other sneaky opportunist who feels they have a right to what you have worked hard to get, mainly your property. Prop 99 does not protect you from them. Vote for real protection and reform. Vote Yes on 98 and No on 99 to put an end to rape and pillage by Madaffer and those like him. To Fred Williams: April won't help you. She is very much in line with the status quo and kept silent when he findings of the Blue Ribbon committee was suprressed. No room for cowards when change is needed. Vote for Marti.— May 23, 2008 12:02 p.m.
