“Rational Discourse is Gay”

Anal Trump, Rob Crow’s not-so-secret collaboration (under pseudonyms) with Cattle Decapitation’s Travis Ryan, dropped their album The First 100 Songs via Joyful Noise on Election Day. It features selections from each of their previous EPs and 30 new songs, including tracks such as “Rational Discourse is Gay,” “Some Mexicans Aren’t Rapists,” and “Harriet Tubman is, Like, a 3.” Released on CD and colored vinyl with a silk-screened B-side, it includes three unreleased EPs: Thoughts, Prayers, and The Golden Age of Willful Ignorance. The group created their own fundraising Super PAC, with the goal of “supporting organizations that make Trump shit.” Donation rewards are claimed (though not confirmed) to include a $10,000 package featuring all 100 songs from the album pressed onto 100 individual one-inch records.

Andy Robinson, who specializes in playing acoustic instruments like the mountain dulcimer and kalimba, landed an endorsement deal with Louson Drums. Based in Pittsburgh, the family-owned company manufactures a wearable cajon drum with a removable external snare system and adjustable sound hole cover that Robinson will be promoting. Robinson’s most recent album Andyland was marketed with a series of impromptu performances at area yard sales and swap meets.

Point Loma High grad Jason Scheff, who spent over 30 years with hit machine Chicago before leaving that band two years ago, performed a trio of Rush songs with Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson on October 28. The set was part of the 11th annual Scott Medlock-Robbie Krieger Gold Classic All-Star Concert to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at the Saddlerock Ranch. Scheff took on Geddy Lee’s bass and vocal parts for renditions of “Limelight,” “The Spirit of Radio,” and “Freewill” that can be found online.

The first of 20 related upcoming releases from Professor B. Miller (aka SDSU English Department alumnus Michael Buchmiller) and his Satanic Puppeteer Orchestra, the Stop By the Supermarket EP, debuts November 24 with a rare live performance at Lestat’s. As always, the Professor will be accompanied solely by his homemade robot SPO-20, whose vocals are synthesized using a vintage Windows XP program. EP song titles include "Shopping List," "Shelf Space," "Expiration Date," "Price Check," and "Paper or Plastic?"
