The Sorrento Valley dispensary opened with the state's very first adult-use retail permit, and a 4.8 rating across 2,602 reviews says San Diego kept coming back.

Torrey Holistics was first in line. When California's recreational cannabis market opened on January 1, 2018, the Sorrento Valley shop held the very first adult-use retail permit the state had issued. In a business that spent decades underground, that is a genuine piece of California history. The reason it still matters in 2026 is plainer than the history, though: people keep shopping there.

A decade in San Diego

Torrey Holistics, a cannabis dispensary in San Diego's Sorrento Valley, opened in 2015 and now carries both a medical and a recreational license. Founder Tony Hall built it into one of the city's longer-running licensed dispensaries. In 2026 the shop marked ten years in business. That tenure is the part the first-license line tends to bury. Plenty of dispensaries open. Staying open for a decade is its own achievement, and Torrey Holistics has done it on the same block in Sorrento Valley the whole time.

What's on the shelf

The menu covers the full range of what a California dispensary can sell. Torrey Holistics stocks flower, edibles, vapes and cartridges, pens, tinctures, topicals, and cannabis drinks. Regulars know the shop for its Moonrocks, which are cannabis buds coated in concentrate and rolled in kief for a much stronger hit. Both medical patients and recreational customers over 21 buy from the same counter. With both licenses on the wall, nobody gets turned away at the door for carrying the wrong kind of ID.

Who it's for

Torrey Holistics serves both ends of the dispensary crowd. Holding both licenses means a medical patient and a recreational buyer can shop the same shelf, so the place fits the longtime cardholder and the curious first-timer alike. The menu is broad enough that someone who knows exactly what they want and someone who has no idea both leave with something. The first-time discount is aimed squarely at that second person, the one walking into a dispensary for the first time and not sure where to start.

You don't have to come in

If you would rather not drive out to Sorrento Valley, Torrey Holistics will bring the order to you. The shop runs delivery and curbside pickup across its service area. It keeps a loyalty program for repeat customers. First-time shoppers get a discount, and so do veterans. Those are standing offers, not a one-week promotion, so the savings are there whenever you first decide to try the place.

Early open, late close

Torrey Holistics opens at 6 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m. on Sunday, and it stays open until 10 p.m. every night. That is a longer day than most San Diego dispensaries keep. If you want to grab something before work or after a late shift, the door is open when a lot of the competition is locked.

The receipts

Torrey Holistics holds a 4.8 rating across 2,602 Google reviews. That is a large public sample, and it sits well above the score most dispensaries land. A 4.8 held over more than two and a half thousand reviews is what a steady stream of returning customers looks like, not a handful of friends padding the numbers. For a shop that has been selling legal cannabis longer than almost anyone in California, that staying power is the real proof.

Find them
