Tin Fork missed by loyal Reader readers

Wrong on Noguchi sculpture in Del Mar

Octetra by Isamu Noguchi. "Futuristic modern design does not feel right at all for Del Mar," read one comment.

Did Ed Bedford drop his fork?

Hey, I noticed Ed hasn’t written anything for Tin Fork in a while. I’ve been reading it since I was a teenager and it’s become somewhat of a comfort section for me. Hopefully he’s doing well!

Curious what happened to this column? I haven’t seen it since early 2023. Is Ed no longer doing Tin Fork? Please, let me know. I do enjoy the Print version, and seldom go to the website (force of habit/old admirer of The Reader). Is Ed still contributing?

Ed is taking a well-deserved vacation. He should return to writing in a few weeks.

Del Mar: no heart for art

Your May 9 article (“Is Octetra the right art for Del Mar?”, Neighborhood News, May 9, 2023) about the proposal from the City of Del Mar’s Arts Advisory Committee for a Noguchi sculpture to be installed at the Del Mar Civic Center got a few of the most critical facts about the proposal wrong. Your reporter, Sheila Pell said, “The Del Mar City Council voted 3-2 to proceed to a 60-day public comment phase.” If only that were true. The fact is that the Council voted 3-2 to kill the project on the spot. The Council did not take its Arts Advisory Committee’s recommendation to move the proposal forward with a public comment period, which would have been followed by a vote by residents. This was a sad day for many residents and many steps backwards for Del Mar in terms of public art.
