Last week brought news of Exitos del Cine Latino, a brand-new week-long film festival, running August 26 to September 1 at AMC Plaza Bonita, that boasts 14 San Diego premieres.

Be on the lookout for Mr. Pig, directed by Diego Luna and starring Danny Glover and Maya Rudolph. It’s a love story around a dying pig-whisperer, his pet porker, and a daughter who reunites with her estranged dad during the course of a road trip through Mexico.

Sounds like a maudlin recipe for disaster, right? Wrong! Luna keeps the sentiment at bay and both leads are so magnificent — Mr. Glover has never been better — they’re bound to be forgotten come Oscar time. When it pops up on my Ten Best list, don’t say you weren’t warned.

Here is a complete list of dates and times of the titles to be screened. For more information, visit their site.
