Attempted yacht theft — suspect caused $50,000 in damage

Harbor Patrol units were dispatched to retrieve numerous dinghies around SD Bay that were broken loose after the storm. Harbor Patrol towed all the dinghies to the impound dock and are attempting to locate the owners.

Harbor Patrol were dispatched to a public dock within the Americas Cup Harbor to investigate a report of a vessel that had been there all night and whose owner refused to leave. After reviewing video surveillance of the dock, Harbor Patrol issued him a citation.

Harbor Patrol found an adrift dinghy near Harbor Island. The dinghy was taken to the HPD Impound dock.

Jan 10

Harbor Patrol found a vessel attached to the Harbor Island fuel dock after it was closed. An investigation found that the subject aboard the boat was intoxicated. He was taken to county jail.

Jan 4

Harbor Patrol received a call to respond to the Marriott Marina on a report of an occupied stolen vessel. Witnesses on scene reported that a subject jumped over a security fence, untied a large 76’ motor yacht and then broke a window to get into the vessel. As the vessel was drifting towards the rocks in the marina, the suspect was in the pilot house and engine room attempting to start it. Harbor Patrol arrived, boarded the vessel, and arrested the suspect as he came up from the engine compartment. The estimated damages throughout the vessel exceed $50,000.00 dollars.

Harbor Patrol responded to the A-3 Anchorage to investigate a dinghy being stolen.

Harbor Patrol responded to Marina Cortez to investigate a vessel being broken into. It was found that an unknown subject/s broke into a vessel and were living aboard it while the owner was away on vacation. Harbor Patrol recovered evidence and are continuing the investigation.

Harbor Patrol responded to Tuna Harbor to investigate a fuel spill from a large fishing vessel. Harbor Patrol documented the incident and notified all environmental agencies. USCG responded to the scene and are continuing the investigation.

Dec 28

Harbor Patrol located an adrift dinghy near the main shipping channel and buoy #14. The dinghy was stored at the Harbor Patrol impound dock for being a hazard to navigation.

Harbor Patrol assisted a boater who overturned in the Shelter Island Basin. The boater was having difficulty righting his vessel due to the wind conditions. Harbor Patrol towed the vessel and boater to shore where he was able to right the vessel.  

Harbor Patrol were dispatched to the G Street Mole marina to investigate a theft. The owner of the vessel claimed a female companion stole some personal items and a cashier’s check. Harbor Police are still investigating.

Harbor Patrol responded to check the welfare of a subject at the Sun Road Marina. Harbor Patrol conducted an investigation and submitted a report to Adult Protective Services.

- Harbor Patrol issued a citation to a boater in the Shelter Island Basin for not having valid registration.  

Dec 24

Harbor Patrol impounded a vessel that was in a slip at the Harbor Police Guest slips without a valid permit.

Harbor Patrol impounded a small dinghy that was in a slip at the Harbor Police Guest slips without a valid permit.

Harbor Patrol issued a citation to a subject who was anchored in the A-1 La Playa Anchorage without a permit or valid registration.

Dec 23

Harbor Patrol responded to the Sheraton Marina for a fuel spill. Harbor Patrol documented the incident, notified all environmental agencies and are still investigating.
