Tyler Vasquez was sitting on the beach, watching the waves and other surfers.

“My buddies surf a lot, so I came out with them today. They were looking at the conditions and were saying that today would be a good day for a beginner. I’ve been around surfing my whole life, and my sister was on a surf team and everything. But I just played football. So when I had the ability to come out more often, I’ve been coming out and trying to get more into it.”

The 24-year old has been enjoying surfing as a beginner. “I like to see the view of the waves from the opposite side. Also, the overall energy that it takes. These guys are artists in the water. You look at how easily they flow and work the waves, having the ability to read it, having the ability to plan. They’re shifting their body weight the whole time; it’s like they’re dancing without a choreographed routine. Watching surfers since I was 4-years old in places like Coronado, that’s one of my first memories.”
