Take comfort, Dane DeHaan: 2017 is three-quarters over
The star has three lackluster vehicles currently in theaters, including this week’s Tulip Fever
Poor Dane DeHaan. He started 2017 by starring in the criminally underrated A Cure for Wellness, then starred in the monumental flop Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, and now here he is in Tulip Fever, a film that’s had its release delayed three times, to the derisive delight of many. Oh, and he’s also voicing the lead in the unloved and unprofitable children’s film Leap! (exclamation point not mine)— in theaters now!
About those theaters: at least they’re air-conditioned, right? Much has been made about this summer’s poor overall showing and decidedly dismal end, but baby, it’s hot outside. And it’s not all bad news this weekend. Jerry Lewis is getting a cinematic send-off. A local star was born. There are a couple of marriage movies, one happy, one sad.
But there aren’t many likely breakout hits, and there are some duds. Scott may be a music man, but he didn’t sing along to Rumble. And he confesses disappointment in The Confessions, probably because they went and got his hopes up with the cast and premise.
