Stolen sailboat found, bilge fire, and a shot television

Oct 13

Harbor Patrol impounded a small vessel that was adrift near buoy #19. The owner of the dinghy overheard USCG broadcasting the hazard on VHF channel 16. He then met Harbor Patrol at the impound dock to retrieve his property.

Harbor Patrol responded to a vessel fire at the SD Yacht Club. Upon their arrival, the small fire was extinguished by the owner of the vessel. It was found he was working on his vessel’s fuel system which leaked into his bilge. After cleaning his bilge, he reconnected the bilge pump and the wiring caught fire. The boat owner received minor burns while putting out the fire and was transported to a local hospital.

Harbor Patrol located an abandoned dinghy near the 10th Avenue Marine terminal. The dinghy was impounded and Harbor Patrol will investigate to find the owner.

Harbor Patrol issued citations to two boaters in the A-5 Anchorage that were not permitted to be there.

Harbor Patrol investigated a crime which occurred at a Harbor Island Marina where a subject broke into a vessel and took some cash and other property. Harbor Patrol have a good lead on a possible suspect and will continue to investigate.

Oct 9

Harbor Patrol responded to a disturbance call in the A-9 Cruisers Anchorage. Harbor Patrol found two subjects were in a verbal dispute about helping out another boater. One of the subjects then used a knife and punctured a hole in the others inflatable dinghy.

Oct 8

Harbor Patrol was contacted by a subject claiming that his dinghy was stolen from his slip at a Harbor Island Marina. Harbor Patrol is still investigating.

Harbor Patrol impounded a small vessel that was tied off to a dinghy dock in the Laurel Street Anchorage. Harbor Police were unable to contact the owner and had posted the vessel for a couple days prior to impound.

Oct 6

Harbor Patrol responded to a vessel collision at the Kona Kai Marina. The owner of a large sailboat was maneuvering in an alley way and found he had no reverse propulsion due to a mechanical issue. His vessel first struck a dock causing it to deflect off of it. It then wedged itself between two docked vessels. There was moderate damage done to all vessels and no injuries.

Harbor Patrol documented damage done to a vessel while it was fueling at the Harbor Island fuel dock. The damage was caused by a couple jet skis that were speeding past the area which caused large wakes. The vessel received damage as it repeatedly struck the dock from the wakes.

Harbor Patrol investigated a report of a 37’ sailboat that was stolen from a Harbor Island marina. The vessel was then located on the beach in Coronado in front of the Naval Base. The damage done to the vessel is approximately $15,000.

Oct 2

Harbor Patrol responded to Cabrillo Marina due to a gunshot being heard. An investigation located the subject aboard his vessel and determined that he accidentally discharged his weapon. The fired bullet went through his television, hull and into the neighboring vessel. No one was injured.

Harbor Patrol responded to a reported fuel sheen in Tuna Harbor (G. Street Pier). The source or suspect vessel for the small sheen was undetermined and Harbor Patrol made notifications to all responsible environmental agencies.
