Anti-Trumpians root in Ocean Beach sand

Hundreds of protesters gathered in Ocean Beach on Saturday morning (March 4) to send a simple message conveying their feelings about Donald Trump's presidency: "Impeach!"

"We've been organizing for the last two or three weeks," explained Frank Gormlie, editor of the OB Rag website. Originally inspired by a handful of community members and featuring a beach cleanup that drew about 100 in the hours before the photo shoot, the event was picked up by a local chapter of Indivisible, a loosely organized coalition of groups that has been likened to a left-wing version of the right's Tea Party opposition to Barack Obama.

Gormilie said, ”There are several reasons we're calling for impeachment — the emoluments clause, which Trump has clearly violated by not divesting his economic empire. Just his hotel in DC is a violation of the Constitution. There are serious connections about his connections to Russia that we're calling for to be investigated."

At around 10:30, approximately 500 additional protesters (who had previously formed their own message of "Resist" in human font) marched down the sand from Dog Beach, chanting "Dump Trump!" and "Not my president!" between cheers. They took their places along an outline marked with orange pylons that spelled "impeach." Overflow participants stretched the "I" and added a rough exclamation point to the message. A similar event at San Francisco's Ocean Beach last month also drew a larger-than-anticipated crowd.
