Record-releases to kick off 2017

San Diego bands dropping discs in the new year

Fresh Brunettes will be at Blonde to release Fouled Up Beyond All Recognition, and “the theme for the night is feminism.”

When Grizzly Business plays a release party for Spanish Old-Fashioned on January 7 at Soda Bar, “Attendees can definitely expect a ghost of Christmas past to join us on the stage,” according to cofounder Walter Ayllon. “Our new CD has a lot of pianos and backup vocals in it, which means we’ll be mixing up our usual plug-and-play style. There’s a Spanish song on the new CD, which we’ll be playing for the first time in front of other humans. Plus, we’re going on tour through New York and Europe right after this show. So, unless you want to see pictures on our Instagram of how cold and hungry we are on the streets of Brussels, it would be nice to see people in the crowd.” The all-local bill includes Inspired & the Sleep and Spero.

The Fresh Brunettes will debut their full-length Fouled Up Beyond All Recognition at Blonde Bar in Mission Hills on January 13. “The theme for the night is feminism, which we bring out in our femme-punk style,” says guitarist Aleisha Burton. “As feminists, we want to encourage women everywhere to be strong, confident, and love themselves. We want to celebrate with anyone who is passionate about equality between gender, sex, and race.”

Soda Bar is hosting a CD-release party for Mexican noise-pop shoegazers Mint Field on January 12, as well as the debut of a CD edition of Prior Knowledge by pop-punkers Just In Case on January 14.

Blues rockers the Brian Jones Rock ’N’ Roll Revival will play a free record-release party at the Kraken in Cardiff on January 22. The debut full-length from Oceanside roots rockers Wish & the Well, Darling Darling, premieres January 27 at Booze Brothers Brewing Company in Vista. “We’re gonna have our good friend Nathan James open the show with a stripped down Delta blues set,” says Corey Leal. “Then Melissa Barrison, who sang on the title track, will join us for our set.”
