Papa Doug selling Rhode Island mansion

Papa Doug Manchester, multimillionaire San Diego real estate developer and former owner of the Union-Tribune, is awaiting delivery of his sixth child, and for that reason intends to sell the Newport, Rhode Island, mansion he bought in July, according to a story yesterday (November 6) in the Wall Street Journal.

Manchester, 73, married Geniya Derzhavina, 40, in late 2013. She is a native of Siberia who came to the U.S. She and her first American husband had been married four years when they separated in 2009 and then divorced. Manchester has five children from his 1965 marriage to Elizabeth "Betsy" Manchester. They divorced in 2013 after a four-year separation.

Manchester bought Fairholme, one of Newport, Rhode Island's historic ocean-front mansions, last July for $15 million. He has put the 24,400 square foot, 15-bedroom home on the market for $21 million.

Manchester told the Journal that he has put "several millions" worth of improvements on the property. He said he was looking to spending much time at Fairholme, but is selling because he is expecting his sixth child, and with a new baby it will be "a little bit difficult coming to the West Coast to enjoy the incredible Newport area." In August he bought Fox Hill, the former La Jolla estate of the late Helen Copley, for $17 million.
