Former U.S. Attorney and San Diego school district superintendent Alan Bersin, the Homeland Security functionary whose wealthy wife Lisa Foster works for the Justice Department, was reportedly on the short list of Barack Obama’s candidates for U.S. ambassador to Mexico. Instead, State Department Mexico veteran Roberta S. Jacobson got the nod. That leaves Bersin and his wife free to sign up for Bersin’s old college pal Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

It might not be much of a surprise, given Dave Roberts’s well-publicized problems with staffers of late, but the Democratic county supervisor has been a bit tardy in disclosing who put up $5000 “for use by [the] County of San Diego in support of State of County address.” The cash came in on June 25 of last year but was reported by Roberts this May 22. The source was given as the United Domestic Workers of America.

A delegation of four from the Otay Mesa Chamber of Commerce was among those who heard the Rolling Stones play at Petco Park, thanks to a gift of passes by Democratic city councilman David Alvarez, according to a May 15 disclosure filing. The face value of each pass was given as $375.

San Diego’s GOP Lincoln Club, which roundly bashed Democrats Nathan Fletcher and David Alvarez in successful pursuit of mayoral victory by Republican Kevin Faulconer, is already back for the incumbent mayor’s re-election campaign next year.

The group, backed with big money from Sempra Energy, Predator drone-making Linden Blue, and a variety of other local powers that be, has set up a new campaign committee called Communities United for Tomorrow’s Economy supporting the 2016 re-election of Mayor Faulconer. In addition to the Lincoln Club, the group is sponsored by the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee, says the May 28 filing.
