Cuban firebrand pianist Chuchito Valdez kicks off the summer season of the KSDS Jazz Live concert series with a solo performance at the Saville Theatre on the campus of San Diego City College (14th & C Street) at 8 p.m. Free to Jazz 88 members, $10 general admission… There’s a tribute to Dave Brubeck featuring Ed Kornhauser, Charlie Arbelaez, Mackenzie Leighton, and Charles Weller going down at Croce’s Park West (2760 Fifth Avenue) two sets at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. $5 cover.

Trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos is hosting the Young Lions Series featuring up and coming jazzers at Croce’s Park West, sitting in with Zion Dyson at 7 p.m. for a $5 cover, before heading to the Latin Jazz Jam Session at Seven Grand (3054 University Avenue) with Irving Flores, Rob Thorsen, and Mike Holguin, starting at 9 p.m. 21+, no cover… The Jazz 88 Blues Jam ignites at Proud Mary’s (5500 Kearny Mesa Road) led by Mark Augustin & friends from 6:30 p.m. No cover charge.

Thursday 11
The Sizzling Singers Summer Series featuring Rebecca Jade, Rob Whitlock, and Charles Weller happens at Northern Spirits (727 West San Marcos Boulevard) from 7 to 10 p.m. No cover, no minimum… The Allison Adams Tucker & Grinnell Family Trio featuring Melonie Grinnell on piano, Justin Grinnell on bass, and Laurel Grinnell on drums star at Croce’s Park West from 7 p.m. $10 cover.

Friday 12
From Quebec, the Marianne Trudel Trifolia Trio, with Etienne Lafrance on bass and Patrick Graham on percussion do their thing at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library (1008 Wall Street) at 7:30 p.m. $26 general admission, $21 members, and $15 student rush… The Robert Dove Quartet featuring Ed Kornhauser, Dean Hulett, and Ryan Shaw play Croce’s Park West from 7:30 p.m. $10 cover… The Whitlock/Sprague/Moore Quartet with Rob and Amber Whitlock, Tripp Sprague and Duncan Moore settle in at Northern Spirits from 7:30 p.m. No cover charge… L.A. guitarist Steve Cotter joins Gilbert Castellanos and Rob Thorsen at the Westgate Hotel (1055 Second Avenue) from 8 p.m. No cover charge, but there is a $20 food/drink minimum.

KSDS sponsors two events today, starting with the Jazz 88 Blues Brunch, hosted by Mark Augustin at Proud Mary’s from 11:30 a.m. Augustin then heads over to the Jazz 88 Jazz Jam Session at Old Venice Restaurant (2910 Canon Street) at 6 p.m.… The Matt Smith Neu Jazz Trio with Ed Kornhauser and Mack Leighton host the Sunday Afternoon jam session at 98 Bottles (2400 Kettner Boulevard) from 2:30 to 5 p.m. No cover charge... From NYC, pianist Jason Yeager's trio featuring Danny Weller and Matt Rousseau play 98 Bottles at 6 p.m. $13 at the door.
