Dark Side vs. Wild Side: The folks at Hamilton’s Tavern are pitting the deep, dark, heavy, highly-alcoholic brews of Avery Brewing Company against that same interest’s light, tart, funky, highly-alcoholic brews. But it’s not really a competition. Everybody wins with the rum barrel-aged Rumpkin and chardonnay barrel-aged Ross’s’s’ Melange. | Small Bar, 4628 Park Boulevard, University Heights, 5 p.m.

Craft Beer + Bites: 15 local breweries will converge at Makers Quarter for the Beer Week edition of this popular event offering 10 four-ounce beer tasters along with food from several San Diego food trucks plus live music and, a surprising value-added, fashion trucks. It’s like craft beer with a free-form, collective mentality. | SILO at Makers Quarter, X, East Village, 6 p.m.

Societe Beer Dinner: Even before they earned medals at this year’s Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup, Societe Brewing Company was at the top of most local beer lovers’ lists for IPAs and various unique takes on Belgian-style ales.
