Del Cerro Democrat gives big to Alvarez; McMillins kick in for Fletcher

The big money keeps on flowing in San Diego's increasingly frantic cash race to replace ousted Democratic mayor Bob Filner.

As noted here yesterday, Koch brothers-linked U-T San Diego publisher Doug Manchester fired off a $100,000 check to state Republicans, destination as yet unknown. The GOP supports city councilman Kevin Faulconer for mayor.

Also yesterday, Del Cerro Democrat Lawrence Hess filed a disclosure report revealing he has contributed $15,000 to the mayoral cause of Democratic city councilman David Alvarez.

The money has gone into an independent expenditure committee calling itself San Diegans in Support of David Alvarez for Mayor 2013, according to the report.

As reported here last year by Dorian Hargrove, Lawrence and Suzanne Hess of the Lehbros Limited real estate firm, are longtime givers to Democratic causes, including the super PAC Progressive Kick and Americas Families First Action Fund.

Meanwhile, ex-Republican Assemblyman turned Democrat Nathan Fletcher has picked up more cash from his former GOP base, getting $2,000 from C'Ann and Mark McMillan, president and chief executive of the Corky McMillin Companies, the controversial local developer. Fletcher also got $1,000 from Rancho Santa Fe's wealthy Dan Shea, the steakhouse owner and longtime cheerleader for a new taxpayer subsidized Chargers stadium.

As reported here in January of last year, the McMillin family has been a big backer of the GOP's Lincoln Club, giving $3770. They also gave $33,946 to the Building Industry Association PAC; $5000 to Republican Jerry Sanders successful public pension changing ballot effort; and $1,000 to Republican city attorney Jan Goldsmith.
