Art sought for East Village trolley stop

Business Improvement District to fund up to $25,000 for unspecified art project

East Village Association, which manages the downtown neighborhood’s Business Improvement District, has put out a request for proposals to create an art installation for the trolley station at Park Boulevard and Market Street.

The association has budgeted up to $25,000 for the project, the scope of which is left to the artist to specify, though any proposal is expected to address durability and ease of maintenance and repair from weather damage and graffiti. Incorporation of recycled materials is encouraged, as is a concept that creates appeal to a broad audience, according to the language of the request.

While the request is publicly published, only artists with previous experience creating public art, preferably in an urban setting, will be considered.

Proposals, including conceptual drawings, time lines for installation, and detailed budgets, will be collected through November 1, at which point an ad hoc committee formed by the association will review submissions.
