John Moores' house can be yours for $23 million

Welcome to one of the most exclusive (and expensive) stretches of real estate in San Diego: beachfront property in Del Mar.

This home, at 1936 Ocean Front, sits along the coast about a half mile south of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club and has, according to its listing details, three bedrooms (plus a fourth optional bedroom), four full baths, and another two half-baths within the 4000-square-foot residence, built in 2002 on an 8250-square-foot lot.

“This incomparable architectural masterpiece is designed to be harmoniously integrated with its world class oceanfront location,” describes the listing.

“Enter through a beautiful courtyard featuring a lap pool complete with a bridge to one of the entrances to the home. The curved oceanfront façade and deck are reflective of the waves beyond. [The home has] breathtaking ocean views from all primary living and sleeping areas.”

A “great room” looking out onto an ocean-view terrace houses living and dining areas, and a stone bar opens to the chef’s kitchen, complete with dual ovens, cooktop and professional-grade hood, and plenty of polished stainless steel.

From the main living area, one follows the glass-walled hallway looking out onto the entry courtyard back to the wood-paneled family room, featuring a unique fireplace, which has a full bath and could be used as another bedroom suite. Steps to the back lead to two guest rooms, each with a private bath and with one boasting a “full white water ocean view.”

Property tax rolls show the home as having last changed hands in 1998 for $3 million, before the current residence was constructed; though, Sandicor, the region’s multiple-listing service, records the previous sale price at $6.4 million.

The property’s owner is listed as Shared Ventures, Inc., a corporation with a mailing address in Medina, Minnesota. Several recorded deeds against the property, however, were signed by Texas multimillionaire and former San Diego Padres owner John Moores and his ex-wife Rebecca Moores. The Rebecca A. Moores Family Trust is also the listed owner of record for a neighboring 5284-square-foot residence at 1934 Ocean Front, which is not and has not recently been listed for sale.

The property was listed on December 27 for $22,950,000, which remains the current asking price, putting the home in a tie for the sixth most expensive single-family residence publicly offered for sale in San Diego County.
