Lap of luxury

Three members of the Hempfield Area School Board in Pennsylvania are in hot water for spending more than $9000 of school district funds on a junket to the National School Boards Association convention in San Diego last month. The trio “stayed at the exclusive Hotel Del Coronado, located on 28 acres along the Pacific Ocean,” reports the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Jeff Weber, one of the members on the trip, spent $395 per night on his room, the paper said. “If we were going to raise taxes more than 1 mill, I wouldn’t have gone. It’s good to get out and meet other school board members and see how they handle certain things,” Weber told the paper.
