Swive is an alt-rock band specializing in harmony-filled female and male vocals, founded in 2021 by members who’ve played with Lighting Starts Fire, Weenie Roast, Throw Like a Girl, The Nephews, Scary Pierre, and Lucy’s Fur Coat. The bill includes Blair Gun and The Psychlops, and Grampawdrew will perform in The Razzmatazz Lounge.

Free Arbor Day Concert at Civita Park April 26

Two 2024 San Diego Music Awards nominees are staging a free family-friendly outdoor concert in Mission Valley. The Gravities are a three-piece power/funk band whose music ranges from soul and groove to blues, roots, and funk rock. Jonny Tarr is a British-born musician who plays funk, soul, and pop by blending sax, guitar, keyboard, flute, harmony, and beat-box tracks.

Sue Palmer is known as The Queen of Boogie Woogie, The Sultana of Swing, and The Lady Who Skates on the 88s. She has performed with many legends of the boogie genre, playing double piano with Marcia Ball, Hadda Brooks, Sonny Leyland, Steve Lucky, Jeannie Cheathem, Ricky Nye, Mr. Boogie Woogie, Mike Seeley, Caroline Dahl, Wendy Dewitt, and she recorded many collaborations with local star Candye Kane.

P.O.D. at House of Blues April 28

P.O.D.’s 1999 mainstream debut album The Fundamental Elements of Southtown spawned the hit “Southtown” and Total Request Live favorite “Rock the Party (Off the Hook).” Their fourth studio album Satellite featured “Alive,” which became MTV and MTV2’s number-one-played video of the year. Opening acts include Bad Wolves, Norma Jean, and Blind Channel.

San Diego Music Awards at Humphreys By the Bay April 30

This year’s San Diego Music Awards lineup includes the newest Lifetime Achievement Award winner Stevie Salas (guitarist for Mick Jagger, Rod Stewart, George Clinton, etc.), who will also perform. The concert bill will feature Kimmi Bitter, We the Commas, Ash Easton, Mitchy Slick, and Joshua Taylor. Proceeds from the awards ceremony are donated toward developing music programs in local schools.
