In recent weeks, the once staid City of Carlsbad has been roiled by controversy — first over the decision to fly the Pride flag over city hall, and then over the possible inclusion of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion measures in its schools. But while it may seem like change has finally come for Carlsbad, the city’s Director of Standards, Cindy Hobnob, assured SD on the QT that the city was still the same where it counts. “Carlsbad is the 29th most expensive city in the world, and the 17th most expensive city in California. Median home price is still around $1.4 million. All this hullabaloo over Pride and Diversity should not obscure the fact that we still have every intention of keeping out the poor — no resolutions required. Just the solid, traditional morality of market forces.”
