Expect punch-outs from surfers

She would've fought polio shots

17-year-old Ella Campagna has surfed competitively for years.

Surfside punch-out

Some airhead, I guess it was a girl, Ella, is quoted as saying, “I cut off this guy once on a wave and he started calling me all these names.” (“Picking colleges based on surf spots,” Surf Diego, August 17) Listen, honey, all I have to say to you is we don’t make up the rules, we just follow ‘em. I’ve seen people getting punch-outs over that. Look to your left or your right before you drop in on somebody. You could hurt them. So yeah, get over it.

Paralyzing notion

I read with amusement the letter from antivaxer Carol Lencine Thomas (“Vaccine-hesitant comes forward,” Letters, August 25). To say it was a fount of misinformation would be an understatement. “It wears off, people have died, blood clot, etc.” All with zero proof. I’m sure she’s getting all her rock solid info from extremely reliable sources.

She further claims she is being discriminated against because she is “intelligent.” Sure. She is being offered a vaccination that can actually prevent her from getting sick, spreading the Covid to others, and possibly dying, but is refusing to get the shot. A real intelligent decision.

Those of us doing the right thing by getting a vaccination have “low intelligence” and are “sheep.” An interesting view of vaccinated people from someone spewing falsehoods and utter nonsense. If this were the 1950s she’d probably be in La Jolla holding a sign and demonstrating against the Salk polio vaccine!
