This is just stupid (“Fires in Alpine, San Felipe Valley, Julian,” From the Archives, February 7). Wildfires suppress animals and kill them. Why would we want to glorify them not to mention the fact that they kill people and homes. I’m sure no one will be offended though unless you count the PTSD of those people who lost their home in wild fires who need to hear this name all of the time. Anything you pick will offend someone. Get over it! More important things to do.

Who is this ‘neurologist’ ? To what he was demanding of Cindy “to hand over” her driver’s license, why did the neurologist not additionally have the Department of Motor Vehicles REVOKE IT. As the being the CORRECT way; as how Department of Motor Vehicles has done it to another in pasttime, when society times were more conservative.

Gosh, I remember seeing that photograph of Johnnie Perkins on the run! As I recall he was sort of a union-darling, dim-witted but in-like-Flynn with power brokers and ambitious to advance. That he was involved in the expensive City whitewash of asbestos-y 101 Ash Street building is no surprise. Caveat emptor, Spokane.

A forty foot ceiling is really, really high, folks. And from the outside, even if the place has only one story, has to look as if it is three or four stories tall. Kind of runs against the notion of keeping the houses low slung, doesn’t it? I’ve lived in the county for fifty years, and I have no recollection of this area, or of having heard anything about it before, And yet, it’s cheek-to-jowl with the SDSU campus. Surprising that it can remain so inconspicuous in such a central location, but then, the world is full of surprises.

The agreement levied a mere $750 fine against a committee calling itself Yes on Measure A – Homes for San Diegans to atone for the disclosure violations.” So for hiding donations of $155,000, this committee only had to pay a penalty of 0.0048%, because it “fully cooperated with the...investigation”? Seems exorbitant considering the $200 (0.00067%) that Todd Gloria paid to be allowed to fradulently launder over $300,000. Still, how amazing! Who knew justice could be afforded with less than the equivalent of coins from the spare change tray at a convenience store?

With little publicity surrounding this action, few SD voters will know that their votes are being influenced by out-of-town interests. Those interests have little concern about the issues, because they hope to profit from the sort of thing that would be built with the funds generated. SD voters would be well advised to vote to reject any and all such tax boosts. Too often they raise funds for wasteful projects that actually harm the locals, rather than helping them. And nobody should ever forget that SD can waste money with the best of ‘em, all the while crying poor mouth.
