Danai Gurira born in US, KPBS number one

This concerns the theater article this week by Jeff Smith about Familiar at the Globe (“An in-house culture war that’s also funny,” Theatre Reviews, February 13) and in the second paragraph he says the playwright [Danai Gurira] was born in Zimbabwe and moved to the Midwest when she was very young. According to the program here, its just the opposite. She was actually born in the Midwest and moved to Zimbabwe when she was eight years old and that’s according to this interview with her done by Tim Stafford that was printed in the program.

Ratings smash

Re the slightly skeptical piece on KPBS searching for a News and Investigative Editor (News Under the Radar, February 14). Don’t underestimate the reach and influence of KPBS-FM, the local NPR affiliate. Among some three dozen radio stations surveyed monthly (there are about 50 AM/FM signals in the market) by Nielsen Audio Ratings, the station is consistently number one.

River runs through it

In connection to Dan Smierchowski’s comments on the S.D. River flood control (Letters, February 13), I’ve always wondered why we don’t dig the river canal down to a lower level to hold more than twice as much water as currently. Tributaries from all point of the valley would keep rainwater within the valley under complete control, and bridges level with the ground could keep vehicles dry as they cross it to Fashion Valley Mall, ferinstance. No?
