San Diego, Chula Vista happy places to live

WalletHub, a statistical aggregating firm following economic and demographic trends, came out yesterday (March 12) with its list of the nation’s happiest cities. San Diego is 32nd out of 182 cities, and Chula Vista is 35th.

The firm looked at such meaningful figures as depression and suicide rate, life expectancy, adequate sleep rate, sports participation, emotional and physical health, income growth rate, poverty rate, weather, unemployment and bankruptcy rates, weekly work hours, commute time, and separation/divorce rate.

The happiest city is Fremont, California, which is in the San Francisco metro area but is close to money-sated Silicon Valley. San Jose, at the center of Silicon Valley, was third. Both Fremont and San Jose have median household incomes of more than $100,000.

Not surprisingly, Detroit is the unhappiest city, with the highest divorce/separation rate, lowest adequate sleep rate, and among the lowest three in income growth.
