Venue's 15-day suspension over, but issues remain with fire dept., code compliance

K.Flay took her show down the road after the Observatory postponed her January 13th gig

Lt. Steven Behrendt of the San Diego Police Department’s Vice Operations issued the following statement this morning (January 17th):

Place

Observatory North Park

2891 University Avenue, San Diego

“Based on the incident that happened at the Observatory on June 7, 2017, and other prior violations of their entertainment permit, the San Diego Police Department Vice Permits & Licensing Unit suspended their Entertainment permit for 15 days. The Observatory served the suspension from January 2 through January 16th.

“The City Attorney’s Criminal Division and City Code Compliance have separate issues with the Observatory and you would have to check with them regarding those issues. You would also have to check with the State Bureau of Alcoholic Beverage Control regarding any investigation or enforcement they may be taking."

This suspension resulted in the postponement of the K.Flay show on January 13th (instead she performed a free show at the Vinyl Junkies record Shack). She will return for a makeup show at the Observatory May 8. The Sweet and Tender Hooligans was rescheduled from January 6 to February 16.

The next show at the North Park Observatory is Big Boi on January 18th. However, according to the state bureau of Alcoholic Beverage Control, there remain unresolved issues regarding the venue and neighborhood sound issues.

City attorney chief of staff Gerry Braun said there are other issues with the fire department and code enforcement but did not specify if those issues were resolved during the 15-day permit suspension. Attempts to reach the San Diego Fire Department were not successful.
