Boat owner sells vessel to different people — duplicate pink slips

Harbor Patrol reports March 13-31

Coronado ferry landing. Harbor Police assisted jet skiers back onto the ski that had flipped over. Within minutes, they fell off again.

Harbor Police Harbor Police issued a citation for illegal mooring at the Harbor Police guest dock for a person who did not have a reservation.

Harbor Police assisted a vessel in distress that had lost power near 10th Ave Marine Terminal with 10 people on board. Harbor Police towed the vessel from the San Diego Bay channel and released it to a commercial vessel tow company.

Harbor Police were dispatched to a report of a vehicle and trailer in the water at the Chula Vista Launch ramp at located at 1001 Marina Parkway. Harbor Police determined all persons were out of the water and accounted for and no one was injured. The truck and trailer were towed out by a local tow company.

Harbor Police issued a citation for illegal mooring at the Harbor Police guest dock for a person who did not have a reservation.

Harbor Police assisted Coronado police with a subject swimming in the bay who refused to come out near Bay View Park. The subject was assisted out of the water by Harbor Police and turned over to Coronado Police. The subject was evaluated by Coronado Fire and transported to UCSD for medical evaluation.

Mar 24

Harbor Police located an adrift dinghy near buoy #16. The vessel was stored at the Harbor Police dinghy dock until Harbor Police could locate the owner.

Harbor Police impounded a vessel that was illegally anchored along the golf course in Glorietta Bay. The owner of the vessel had been warned prior his vessel being impounded.

Mar 21

Harbor Police were dispatched to the Chula Vista Marina for an adrift dinghy. The management to the docks tied it to a slip so it would not be adrift within the marina. Harbor Police recovered it and stored it to look for the owner.

Mar 20

Harbor Police issued a citation to a boater who was at the Harbor Police Guest Slips pump-out dock. The subject was not a registered guest, was attempting to stay overnight on the dock and was not actively using the pump outs.

Harbor Police issued a citation to two boaters in the A-1 Anchorage for not having valid permits.

Harbor Police contacted a subject aboard a vessel in the Shelter Island A-1 Anchorage that has a valid stay away court order to not be around Shelter Island or the anchorage. He was taken to jail.

Mar 18

Harbor Police responded to the area of Coronado Ferry Landing to assist a few jet skiers that fell into the water. Harbor Police assisted them back onto the ski that had flipped over. Within minutes, they fell off again. Harbor Police assisted them onto the patrol boat and transported them back to the dock.

  • Harbor Police were dispatched to investigate a vessel that ran over a security/oil boom at BAE Systems and damaged it. The vessel then sped away from the area. Harbor Police responded and were unable to locate the vessel. Video surveillance is assisting Harbor Police with the investigation.

  • HP Harbor Police contacted a subject on the Cesar Chavez pier next to the Coronado Bridge. The subject was found to have a warrant and was taken to jail.

Mar 16

Harbor Police were dispatched to the Sun Road Marina for a subject outside his boat waving a handgun around. Harbor Police located the subject who seemed to be suffering from a medical condition and was disoriented. An investigation found the subject did have a gun on the interior of his vessel but was not waving it around. The subject was transported to the hospital to evaluate his condition. Harbor Police took his weapon/s for safekeeping.

Harbor Police responded to Marina Cortez for a possible vessel burglary. Harbor Police located subjects inside the vessel and detained them. The reporting party claimed to be the registered owner and showed Harbor Police the pink slip and registration to the vessel. It was soon found that the original owner of the vessel had sold the vessel to a couple different people by making up another pink slip. Harbor Police are still investigating.

Harbor Police was dispatched to the area of buoy #16 for a partially submerged dinghy. Harbor Police located the dinghy along with a second dinghy near buoy #17 that was also mostly submerged. They were stored at the Harbor Police Impound Dock.
