Russians welcome in San Diego

Take them to your child’s sporting event

The San Diego Diplomacy Council is looking for a few houses to host visiting Russians, who will be here to “create connections and share best practices.”

With Washington abuzz over charges that Russian agents mucked about in American politics during last year’s presidential election, the San Diego Diplomacy Council is going straight to the horse’s mouth for another take on the matter. “We are currently seeking home hosts for 6 young Russian business leaders on the weekend of June 9– 11, 2017 (2 nights),” says a call for volunteer lodging providers on the group’s website.

“We are looking for all types of San Diegans to home-host — individuals, couples, and families of any ages. While your guest lives with you we ask that you either have meals together or have food available to them (they can make their own breakfast, for example). You can show your guest around San Diego and/or give them a glimpse into everyday life in San Diego — whether that means that you are involved in volunteer work, attending your child’s sporting events, or running errands.”

Adds the notice, “Home hosts can pick up fellows on Friday evening and return them to their downtown hotel anytime on Sunday. Home hosts can host 1 or 2 fellows, as long as they both have their own rooms.” According to the note, the Russian visitors are here to “spend three weeks working for San Diego–based companies in order to develop business relationships, create connections, and share best practices.”
